Our Mission

South Africa has one of the highest smartphone penetration rates on the continent. Most people have a powerful computer in their pocket. But having access to a device is only half the story. Millions of South Africans lack the digital skills needed to use that device for work, education, or daily tasks like banking and government services.

Something to Learn Online exists to close that gap. We create short, practical digital literacy courses that anyone can follow, regardless of their background or experience. Our goal is simple: give people the skills they need to participate fully in the digital world.

What We Teach

Our courses focus on the tools and platforms people actually use. That means social media like Facebook and WhatsApp, productivity tools like Google Apps and Microsoft Office, video conferencing with Zoom and Teams, and essential services like the SARS eFiling app.

Every course is built around practical skills that lead to real outcomes, whether that is finding a job, running a small business, or simply staying connected with family.

Our Approach

We design everything mobile-first. Our courses are short video lessons that work well even on slower data connections. Each course is broken into bite-sized lessons of about 4 minutes each, so you can learn during a lunch break or a taxi ride.

We believe language should never be a barrier to learning. That is why we are building all our courses in both English and Xhosa, with more languages planned for the future.

The Team

Something to Learn Online is a project by mobilearn.africa, a media company based in Cape Town that specialises in creating digital content for impactful communications.

We combine media production expertise with a deep understanding of the South African digital landscape to create courses that actually make a difference.
